Pretty Bird
Pretty Bird is a hair salon owned by proud maximalist and incredible stylist Mandi Buckley. We met Mandi at the threshold of a huge moment: preparing for the opening of her very first storefront.
How might we...
Pretty Bird found a cozy spot to nestle on a busy shopping street. The brand needed to not only catch the eye of walkers-by, it needed to feel like home for Mandi and the people who arrive expecting a lovely experience. Mandi brought us a Pinterest board of her exuberant aesthetic; our hope was to translate it all into a brand design system that works as well in a post as it does in a salon space.
Friends, assemble!
We developed three initial design directions that unfolded Mandi’s inspiration in different ways, with names to suit: Baroque Jungle, Tropicale Modern, and Mr. Matisse Goes to Copacabana Beach. We followed feedback to pull the threads of the brand together: a custom jungle leaf pattern, pops of pink, green, and purple, and gothic logotype paired with a bird-shaped logo that echoes the letter forms.
Yes! And...
Brand in hand, the question turned to the salon itself. To outfit the salon like the gothic jungle of Mandi’s dreams, we designed signage and printed pieces. We also offered shopping lists of fixtures, art, and materials that extend the brand into the space.
